The Sherwood School District

The Sherwood School District in Sherwood, OR is well-known for its top-notch academic and sports programs. A very family-oriented community, Sherwood ranked as one of the Top 10 Best Towns for Families in the July 2009 edition of Family Circle magazine. The magazine based its decision on criteria such as friendly neighbors, green areas, housing options, and the public school system. The Family Circle article explained that each chosen city has passionate teachers and parents who are dedicated to improving their children’s futures and ensuring they receive an excellent education.

The public school system in Sherwood, OR is made up of four elementary schools, two middle schools, one charter school and one high school. There are also terrific pre-school programs and private school options for children throughout Sherwood.

Sherwood Elementary Schools

The four public elementary schools in Sherwood are Archer Glen, Edy Ridge, Hopkins and Middleton. Archer Glen is known for its caring and committed teachers and staff that get involved in fundraising and events every bit as much as the parents do. Archer Glen also has a strong art literacy team and music program. The Edy Ridge school building, built from 2006 construction bond money, was designed with sustainability and green living in mind. Edy Ridge students have the opportunity to learn in a building that supports conservation and the environment.

On the other end of the spectrum, Hopkins Elementary School students learn in one of the oldest school buildings in Sherwood. These children have assemblies in a multi-purpose room with 1950s plywood paneling, and gain a rich sense of their Oregonian history and culture. The principal at Hopkins knows each student by his or her first name. Middleton Elementary is known for very high academic testing scores and a large fundraising program. Located within a high-income area of Sherwood, many stay-at-home moms volunteer in the classrooms and Middleton students enjoy a high rate of parent involvement and interaction.

Sherwood Middle Schools

Laurel Ridge and Sherwood Middle School are the two public middle schools in Sherwood. A new school, Laurel Ridge opened its doors in 2009 with construction bond money and has many environmental and energy conservation aspects in both the building design and school processes. The school district expects that the Laurel Ridge school building will be certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
